A drive for excellence and passion for great wines and quality viticulture fuse into one in this exciting project of locally cultivated wines (Bizkarraga estate, San Prudencio neighborhood, Getaria).

This idea was conceptualized with the COVID-19 quarantine in full swing, recovering a small, abandoned, century-old vineyard measuring just 1,276m2.

Aiming to produce wines of utmost quality while fully respecting the production process in the vineyard and with minimal intervention at the winery, our goal is to offer a unique local wine experience.

We have produced two different lines of white wine under the Getariako Txakolina Designation of Origin and featuring the local Hondarrabi Zuri grape variety.

Iturregi Bizkarraga 2022

12.900m2 of vineyard with great potential in terms of quality located in Zumaia; its southeast orientation and trellis system give rise to our unique version of Txakoli de Getaria. Manual selection of only the clusters that meet the strictest quality parameters; the 2022 vintage saw limited production of less than 2,638 bottles.

This beverage brings together the characteristics that one expects from a Txakoli de Getaria, but with greater complexity and elegance. On the palate, this txakoli wine reveals its high-end lineage, offering a freshness that is typical of the Hondarrabi Zuri grape variety, enriched with a rounder and softer texture thanks to sur lie aging. Its acidity is moderate, with a tannic touch that provides character, achieving the perfect balance between body and freshness.

Tasting notes

Eye: straw yellow color with greenish tones. It stands out for its brightness and light, fine bubbles that persist while you enjoy a glass.

Nose: aromatically complex; it seamlessly combines the primary aromas of the grape (such as white fruit and herbaceous aromas) with tertiary aromas like chestnut wood coming through (without being overpowering) and sweeter notes from the sur lie aging process.

Palate: freshness expected of the Hondarribi Zuri grape with sur lie aging in wood to provide structure, body, and softness. Moderate acidity and low tannins. Traditional txakoli, but with a high-end twist.

Pairing

Perfect to combine with cold appetizers such as Gildas (a typical local pintxo featuring olives and chili peppers), local fish like the anchovy, and Cantabrian white tuna.

Also recommended to accompany seafood and white meats.

Iturregi 2021

Local wine harvested by hand at a small, century-old vineyard that was recovered in 2020, located in a privileged setting just a few meters from the sea on a south-facing plot with calcareous soil. Thanks to 396 pre-phylloxera Hondarribi Zuri grape vines (ungrafted), we obtain a wine for aging that combines elegance, tension, fresh fruit, and verticality.

In order to exploit the qualitative potential of the area while respecting as much as possible the unique character of the local grape and intervening to a minimum in the winery, a limited edition of 1,150 bottles is produced – the Iturregi team’s biggest bet for a high-end wine.
